Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a simple treatment that involves the application of a strong, tooth-colored composite material to one or more teeth. This process can be used to repair teeth that have small chips or cracks or to reshape teeth that are too small or malformed. It is also an excellent option for teeth that have certain kinds of discoloration that do not respond to whitening treatments.

Dental Bonding Procedure

The dental bonding procedure can be completed in a single office visit. First, the teeth to be treated are roughened with a mild etching solution. This will allow the material to adhere to the enamel. The composite material is then applied in layers, each layer being cured with the use of a high-intensity light. After the necessary amount of material has been applied and hardened, it will be sculpted into the ideal shape and polished to blend with the surrounding teeth.

Results of Dental Bonding

The composite material used in dental bonding is specifically designed to be invisible on teeth and will be specially blended to match a patient’s natural tooth color. Once it is polished, it will also appear shiny and luminescent, just as tooth enamel does. With good care, dental bonding should last for several years without needing to be repaired or replaced.

Gum Lifting

A “gummy smile” is a cosmetic problem occurring when excess gum tissue obscures the appearance of teeth. This often makes teeth look too short, sometimes giving them the appearance of being uneven in length. The condition may also cause oral health problems because it results in gingival pockets that are deeper than normal and can trap bacteria and food debris against the teeth. Fortunately, a gummy smile can be addressed with a procedure known as gingival recontouring, or a gum lift.

The Gum Lift Procedure

A gum lift is a minor surgical procedure that can be performed at our dental office. The patient is given a local anesthetic to numb the gums and the excess tissue is removed, creating an aesthetically pleasing, natural appearance and reducing the size of the gingival pockets. Mild discomfort may be experienced during healing, but this can be controlled with medication. Contact our office to learn more about gingival recontouring.

Orthodontics

In the past, the correction of crooked teeth required patients to receive a referral to an orthodontist from their dentist and to visit two different offices, often in two different locations. We know that our patients lead busy lives, so Dr. Barry Dubin and his highly trained staff have worked hard to make orthodontic treatment more convenient. Dr. Dubin is trained and experienced in both traditional and Invisalign® orthodontic treatments. That means our patients can achieve straight, even, beautiful teeth without the hassle of visiting a separate specialist.

Invisalign®

Using clear plastic aligners in place of traditional metal brackets and wires, Invisalign® is the newest development in orthodontic technology. Patients can now have their teeth straightened without anyone being aware of it. The Invisalign® system also reduces the chances of orthodontia-related cavities, because the aligners can be removed while patients eat or brush their teeth. Learn more about Invisalign® aligners.

Teeth Whitening

Tooth whitening treatments are the easiest ways to brighten up a dull smile. We offer both an in-office tooth whitening system and a take-home whitening option for our patients with mild staining or discoloration of the teeth. Patients with certain types of tooth discoloration may not benefit from teeth whitening treatments, however. In these cases, Dr. Dubin will recommend an alternative option, such as porcelain tooth veneers or dental bonding. Contact our Center City office to learn more.

Porcelain Tooth Veneers

One of the most popular and effective tools for smile makeovers and cosmetic enhancement, porcelain tooth veneers are offered at our Philadelphia practice to cover teeth that are chipped, cracked, discolored, malformed, or mildly crooked. These thin, custom-made porcelain shells adhere to the front of teeth, masking imperfections while maintaining the natural tooth structure. Learn more by visiting our porcelain veneers page.
